IFWJ condemns killing of journalist Sai Reddy

Indian Federation of Working Journalist (IFWJ) has condemned the gruesome killing on Friday of Sai Reddy, an indomitable journalist of Chhattisgarh. He was a fighter and was unsparing in his reports be it the Police administration or deviant groups of Naxals. He was arrested by the Police in 2008 and the IFWJ had organized a big Dharna and demonstration for his immediate release, which was led by its President K Vikram Rao.

Sai Reddy was accorded a rousing welcome by the people of the state on his release. His popularity was essentially because of his pro-people concerns and writings.

Telugu speaking Sai Reddy was working for the Hindi daily Desh Bandhu and he was permanently settled in Chhattisgarh. He was killed by a nondescript group of Naxals while visiting a local market of his native village in Bijapur district.

IFWJ demands that the State Government and the newspaper he was working with must provide adequate monetary compensation to his kin.
