IFWJ condemns illegal retrenchment  of media persons from TV18

New Delhi,17 August.

Indian Federation of Working Journalist (IFWJ) has strongly condemned the reported move of TV 18 to lay off hundreds of media persons in the name of restructuring. It has called upon the Government of India and the appropriate State Government to immediately intervene in the matter to save the jobs of media persons, who are to be retrenched.

In a statement the IFWJ has demanded that the media houses running electronic channels must be given the protective cover of the Working Journalists Act and the Industrial Disputes Act so as to maintain the sanctity of the freedom of speech and expression as enshrined in the Constitution of India. This act of the TV 18 managements is not only unethical and anti -working class but also highly unwarranted as the company is posting profits in its returns.

While extending its moral, legal and physical support to all the affected employees it has warned the management of TV18 to desist from indulging into such illegal acts as it would recoil on them and  also rob the peace and harmony of the media industry.
